There is a very curious and unique aspect of gay culture that helps a taste for aesthetics blossom. In straight society, men play out mating displays for women and women for men, but neither reflects the other. In other words, men do men things, women do women things, and although they compete with one another they don’t find the things they do attractive in the opposite sex.

However, when considering the gays, it is very much possible—even likely—that you can be attracted to people exactly like you. This is why bears mate with bears, twinks with twinks, and interior designers with interior designers. Having a meta awareness of attractiveness triggers you to seriously look at everything with the “is this hot? Should I do this?” lens focusing your view.
