Since the mascot of gays is the drag queen, it should come as no surprise that escapism is a major aspect of gay jobs. Stereotypical gay life centers around bars (escapist), clubs (escapist), musicals (escapist), camp (escapist), and continual fantasies about that straight co-worker with the incredible smile (escapist). Indeed, at some point in early life a young queer is often the subject to torments and feeling of “outsider” status sufficient to develop a very extensive fantasy life. Turning this into a career is only a short step away.
Jobs promoting escapism: travel agent, drag queen, bartender, flight attendant, cruise worker, bathhouse attendant.
