“I suppose society is wonderfully delightful! To be in it is merely a bore. But to be out of it simply a tragedy.”
—Oscar Wilde
Perhaps because gays lie at a social intersection between men and women, and thus learn to communicate to both audiences while being a full-fledged “member” of neither, gays tend to have a distinct knack for jobs requiring social graces. As a group, gays are drawn to jobs that require being perpetually charming. And we succeed. Since participating in gay society involves large quantities of men constantly attempting to out-fab one another, it is no surprise that immense skills with people emerge. With plenty of practice and using natural inclinations, gays often aspire to the old epithet “slick faggot.”
Jobs requiring social graces: tour guide, restaurant server, public relations representative, promoter, event planner, drag queen.
